The firmware is open source and can be found here: Arduino firmware. Thanks to the excellent Inkscape plugin from Marty McGuire, it’s easily possible to convert all kinds of vector drawings (eps, svg, etc) to printable GCode. Inkscape has a built-in extension Gcodetools that with the addition of machine details can quickly generate G-code for plotters and CNC routers and. Despite being relatively simple, the SphereBot is a really cool device, and is really fun to build. So it’s no problem to print GCode from MakerBot Unicorn designs directly on the SphereBot. The object is rotated by one stepper motor while the pen is controlled by the other, the up-and-down motion of which is facilitated by a servo motor. The Arduino receives these instructions and controls two stepper motors via the two A4988 stepper motor controllers. Vector Drawings are made in the free, open-source drawing program Inkscape, and are sent to an Arduino over serial using an easy-to-install extension as g-code. These can be anything, from ping pong balls, to golf balls, and even eggs. For those of you who do not know, the SphereBot is a device that uses ordinary pens (sharpies, Rose Art markers, etc.) to draw on round objects. The Arduino receives these instructions and controls two stepper motors via the two A4988 stepper motor. When I run the Sovol extension to create a Gcode path I get this message: File. These can be anything, from ping pong balls, to golf balls, and even eggs. Windows version works flawlessly, but Im having trouble when running on Inkscape on mac. Hello, I am testing out the Gcode extension tool for the plotter Sovol SO-1 and ran into some problems. It could probably work with Windows with only limited modification. I looked at a few G-code generators and after, admittedly, a room-wide search I picked CamBam, but I am quite happy with my choice - it works with zero hiccups (so far) and the CamBam. Inkscape itself does not produce G-code (as far as I know). it feeds generated g-code to the configured serial device. Inkscape can output a DXF file, which I then import into CamBam to generate the G-code for Mach3. “The concept of the SphereBot (or Egg-Bot) is really neat and innovative. Inkscape 1.1 Gcode generator for Sovol SO-1 plotter not working on Mac.
